
— Elections Commission Released List of Qualified Contestants
The Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) Elections Commission has released the list of qualified or eligible candidates for the elections of the federation, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the headquarters of the Liberia National Olympics Committee (LNOC) on Randall Street, Monrovia.
The Secretary General of the LAF Elections Commission, Mr. Leroy M. Sonpon, III divulged the list of qualified candidates on Tuesday, November 16, at about 6:05pm.
He said there are four qualified (eligible) candidates which shall be on the ballot for Saturday’s polls and upon election, officials will govern the affairs of the national athletics body for the next quadrennial, 2022 – 2026
“Consonance with the LAF’s By-laws and Constitution of the LAF, and that of the World Athletics (WA) elections are held after every four years, the LAF Election Commission, after widely publicized publication of the elections guidelines including time table for candidates applications, 3rd – 16th November, the Commission is pleased to hereby released the list of qualified (eligible) candidates to contest this year’s elections,” Mr. Sonpon indicated.
The qualified (eligible) candidates and positions to be contested for are: “Mr Mulbah Z. Zaza, President; Madam Gbuor S. Wilson, Vice President for Administration; Mr. Frederick B. Krah, Vice President for Technical Affairs and Mr. Moses S. Zogar, Financial Secretary.”
Among the five contestable (elective) positions, the Commission has not receive any application for the position of Treasurer.
This Saturday’s elections are part of the LAF 63rd General Assembly, which will bring together members of the Executive Committee and two representatives from registered clubs, and individual members to be held at the offices of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), on Randall Street, Monrovia.
The LAF’s Elections Commission Chief Scribe furthered that campaign for the LAF’s Elections begins Tuesday, November 16, 2021 and ends on Friday, November 19, 2021, by midnight.
“On Saturday, November 20, 2021, election begins as stipulated in the General Assembly/Congress’ documents at the Liberia National Olympics Committee on Randall Street, Monrovia (LNOC) and will last for three hours.The counting of the ballots begins immediately after the close of the polls, and each candidate is requested to send the name of one representative during the voting, counting of ballots and announcement of the results. The elections results will be immediately announced after the counting of the ballots,” Mr. Sonpon maintained.
Meanwhile, the guideline said any candidate who has a complaint to be filed after the elections results are announced, must do so within five (5) minutes following the announcement of the results. And upon receipt of the complaint, the LAF Elections Commission will immediately probe into such complaint and make a determination thereto. If a candidate has any complaint prior to the voting process, said candidate is also allowed to file such complaint to the LAF Elections Commission. And upon receipt of said complaint and fees, the LAF Elections Commission will immediately probe into same and come out with its finding, before proceeding with the voting process.
“All eligible voters, be it individual, or club is entitled to one vote each during the voting process,” Mr. Sonpon intoned.
