The Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) has selected four athletes to represent the country in the Confederation of African Athletics Region II Championships in Kaduna, Nigeria, from May 28 – 29.
Those picked for the regional encounters to serve as flagbearers in Kaduna Nigeria are Nancy Tokpah (female 100m, 200m events); Arthur Quaqua (male 100m, 200m events); Telvin Jallah (Male 100m, 200m events) and Jonathon Tomah (400m event).
They will be accompanied by Coach Ernest Zeigler, according to the statement signed by the LAF Secretary General Samuel Cooper.
Cooper said the team is expected to depart Monrovia on May 26 for the tournament and returns on May 30.
Meanwhile, according to a statement released by CAA Region II on Monday,
CAA Region II president, Ibrahim Gusau said maximum security will be made available for countries competing in the event.
The event was scheduled to hold in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19.
The statement said 10 countries out of the 15 in the region have already signified their interest to take part in the competition.
The competition comes after the Algerian government announced the postponement of the African Athletics Championships on Wednesday over COVID-19 concerns.
