Lusaka, Zambia- Mr. Mulbah Zaza, the President of the Liberia Athletics Federaton (LAF) and 11 others, have been inaugurated as Council Members of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II for a four-year’s tenure, 2023 – 2027.
This is the first time since the founding of Confederation of African Athletics(CAA) in 1973, for Liberia to be elected as Council Member for CAA Region II.
Liberia’s broke the leadership drought of 49 years in the continental athletic governing body, when Mulbah Zaza, President of the Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) was elected last month in Zambia during the CAA Congress from April 26 – 27.
Others who were elected and inducted as Council Members include:
Aminata Sanghare (Mali),
Christine Iye (Chad), Abdelmhsin Magida (Egypt), Naimhwaka Erwin (Namibia), Tagara Tendai (Zimbabwe) and Ibrahim Siddig (Sudan).
The remaining Council members are
Bienvenu Matenda (DRC),
Jeannot Kouame (Cote d’Ivoire),
Nawal El Moutawakel (Morocco)
Beatrice Ayikoru (Uganda) and
Noralaiao Ramanantsoa (Madagascar).
Meanwhile, Mr. Hamad Kalkaba of Cameroon, was reelected as President of Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) was also inducted. Mr. Kalkaba has been at the helm since 2003, when he replaced Lamine Diack who became President of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
Those who were also inducted for a four-year-term are Mr. Jackson Tuwei (Kenya), First Vice-president and the Vice-presidents are Okowa Tonobok (Nigeria), Dlamini Zakhele (Eswatini), Khaled Amara (Tunisia),
Bruno Konga (Central African Republic), and Derartu Tulu (Ethiopia).
The Director General of CAA is Mr. Lamine Faty (Senegal).
