A female athlete is set to run a relay

—— LAF 2021 Club Championship Saturday

The Liberia
Athletics Federation (LAF) has set its 2021 Club Championship on Saturday, October 16, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville. The time is 8:00am.

The LAF Club Championship offers registered and bonafide clubs the opportunity to compete annually in a athletics tournament
to determine the club’s champions.

Another primary objectives are to allow junior and senior athletes the competitive opportunity and chance to meet other members of a similar sprinting caliber, as well as scout athletes eligible and to represent the country in international competitions.

The one day’s Club Championship typically involves competitions in Women’s and Men’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed. The reigning Club Champion is Conquerors.

According to the Secretary General of the LAF, Coach Samuel Cooper, each participating club will feature a contingent of 30 athletes (15 boys and 15 girls) and, at most, four officials including a coach abd medic.

The LAF’s Chief Scribe said the Saturday’s Championship will make up of 14 events.

The 15 events are 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters, 5000 meters, 4×1 relay, 4×4 relay, long jump, high jump, shot put, 10000km, Javelin
4x200m, 4x100m and 4x400m mixed relays.

Mr. Mulbah Zaza, the President of the LAF said the top three clubs will get trophies and be awarded cash prizes.

Besides the Annual National Club Championship, the LAF holds additional four competitions, including National High School Athletics Championship, World Athletics Day, National Time Trial and Kid Athletics Day Kids.

Meanwhile, the Vice President for Technical Affairs, Frederick Krah says the LAF in November will have its Elective Congress.

Bonafide clubs and individual members are expected to attend to participate in the deliberations for the promotion and development of athletics.

The Elective Congress will also contain a special message from LAF president Mulbah Zaza, the reading and adoption of past Congress minutes, financial and activity reports.

It will further include the revision and adoption of the proposed 2022 Budget, revision and adoption of the 2022 Calendar of Events (activities) and resolution respectively.
